First Post! El Capitan - Yosemite National Park
First post!
They say blogging is like pissing in public, you feel good doing it, but everybody else don't give a damn (a few would even curse you for it). But hey, you have to try it once. So here's my attempt at a semi-regular posting of photos during my travels and photo trips. I'm going to attempt to post a "gallery"-grade photo for each post, and write a little story (which nobody would really care) and maybe throw in some technical information if I can remember and bother to lookup the EXIF.
Anyway, let's move on with the first post photo. El Capitan - what can I say? You can't screw up a picture with El Capitan as the subject. You can get an awesome picture of it with just a disposable cam. This wasn't taken with one though. I was using my Canon 10D with the 17-40mm L lens, which is my regular setup ( I need a wider lens - 10mm maybe - hint hint, it's the start of the new year, there's a whole year to save up for my Xmas present). Can't remember much of the technical info though, it was taken back in Jan 2006 - two years ago. All I could remember was standing there in the cold winter evening, waiting for the sunset and El Capitan to change color as the light dims. Composition was tough, there was too much contrast between the dark tree line and the cliff. In the end, I had to crop some of the dark trees out, it wasn't doing much and was distracting from the subject.
I can really appreciate Ansel Adams' work much more after shooting in Yosemite. I mean, the place is huge, freezing cold in the winter (for a Singaporean), and you have mountain lions roaming the place!
